The Classic Manhattan

The Manhattan is one of the oldest cocktails around, and interestingly the first to use Vermouth…up for debate is the use of Canadian vs. Rye Whiskey in the original recipe. The recipe below uses Rye, as cocktail historians are convinced that is the proper way to prepare the drink, but by all means use whichever you prefer…or even better make both and decide which is best.

Classic Manhattan

2oz Rye Whiskey (or Canadian)
1/2 oz Sweet Vermouth
2-3 dashes Angostura Bitters
Maraschino Cherry for garnish

Pour ingredients into a mixing class and stir well.
Strain into a chilled cocktail (martini) glass and garnish with the cherry
